I’ve been optimizing for mobile, too, making an iPhone plant field guide out of my book, Cascade-Olympic Natural History, which Dan and many of his readers are familiar with. It’s out, under the name Northwest Mountain Wildflowers. Way lighter than a book, and entirely self-contained, i.e. does NOT require a cell or wi-fi signal. Dan, I’d like you to check it out and see what you think.
